Today, Governor Abbot called a solemn Day of Prayer across our great state of Texas – a time to unite our hearts and life our voices in hope and healing. This comes at a moment when many of our central Texas communities are reeling from the devastating floodwaters that have swept away cherished campsites and RV parks claiming precious lives, with more rising waters on the horizon.
As the rain continues to fall and the rivers swell, the impact on our land and people is both visible and deeply felt. Those campsites and RV parks, once vibrant places of fellowship, worship, and spiritual renewal, have been transformed by the relentless flood into scenes of loss and sorrow. The destruction cuts to the core, especially for those who called these places sacred.
Our faith remains unshaken. The Day of Prayer is not only a moment to grieve what’s been lost, but is a powerful reminder of the resilience, hope, and unity that define Texans. It’s a time to seek strength from God, comfort for those grieving, and guidance for all who are working tirelessly in rescue, recovery, and relief efforts.
I pray for the families affected by loss of life, that they may feel the embrace of God’s peace. I pray for those displaced and are suffering, that help may reach them swiftly and compassionately. I pray for the leaders and first responders, that their courage and wisdom be renewed daily. Times like these, our faith communities come together not just in prayer, but in action – offering shelter, food, and hope to neighbors in need.
As floodwater continues to challenge those in the way, it’s this spirit of service and love that will carry us through.
