I wasn’t planning on going to Carthage today let alone stopping by an interesting monument. Actually, I didn’t even know that this monument existed until I was looking for fast food for my girls (they were hungry and we aren’t from Carthage). I told myself since we were in the area, I would check it out while we were there.

Standing before the monument, I was struck with its beauty. The sun appearing through the tall trees and the blue skies overhead. I took quiet moments to read the memorable messages along the wall surrounding the monument and the scriptures as well as the inscription written at the beginning of the monument. I stood there to let the words sink in – reminders of the support and companionship during tough times.

I recalled all the times when I have felt or feel alone, only the realize how often I have been carried through the struggles life seems to bring. As I traced the footprints in the stone with my boots, I felt a sense of calm wash over me. I left feeling uplifted and grateful, knowing that this monument will resonate with me long after today.

If you ever find yourself in Carthage, Texas – don’t miss out on this beautiful spot. It’s a true gem for the soul.
