Life is a tapestry woven with routines, each thread contributing to the overall picture of my day. While it can be easy to overlook the beauty in my daily habits, I have come to realize the importance of being grateful for each moment – no matter how mundane it may seem. From the early morning wake-up “Mom are you awakes” to the quiet moment before bed, every routine offers a chance to discover joy.
My mornings begin with the familiar sound of (20) alarm noises (from my phone to my daughter’s phone to multiple alarms set 5 minutes apart), signaling the start of another day. I wake up, wake up the moody teenagers that live in the house with me, and together we start the morning ritual of getting ready for school. This routine, as simple as it sounds never goes smoothly and is usually hectic with a few morning threats like “If you don’t go and get ready, you will never see your phone again.” to “If you are done, please help your sister with whatever they need so that we can go” only to get glared at. After dropping them off at school, I get home to tidy the house, a simple act that brings me an unexpected sense of joy and accomplishment. As the day unfolds, I love being able to explore the world around me – whether it’s a walk in the woods, running errands, or simply observing the beauty of nature. These moments of exploration fuel my creativity and inspire my writing. I often find myself penning thoughts of capturing visuals that resonate deeply with me. Photography becomes a way to express my perspective and share the world’s beauty with others.
I have developed a passion for learning. Discovering the stories behind places, people, and events that inspire me add depths to my understanding of the world we live in. One of my quirky interests is visiting cemeteries to find old, before 1800s-dated graves. While it may seem unusual to you, each grave tells a story, offering a glimpse into the lives that were here before me and you. There is something profound about honoring those who have walked this earth. It fills me with a sense of connection to the past.
As the day winds down, I pick up the girls from school. Whether it is taking them to work or attending their sports events, these moments serve as a reminder of the one and support that binds us. Cooking dinner together is another cherished ritual; it’s a time to unwind, share stories, and nourish our bodies and bonds.
Other than these routines, I have learned the appreciate the little things that create big joy. The laughter shared on the way to school (after the moodiness has left), the beauty of a sunset, or the satisfaction of a clean house are all moments to be grateful for. They remind me that joy is often found in the simplest of actions.
Gratitude … in the physical aspects of myself, I appreciate my hands – capable of creating, nurturing, and expressing. They allow me to write, take photos, prepare meals, and hold my girls close. Recognizing the strength and beauty in my body that helps me to embrace who I am with a sense of confidence that is empowering.
Every routine, every small joy, and every moment of gratitude contributes to a fulfilling existence. As I continue navigating my days filled with school runs, errands, and quiet evenings, I strive to cultivate my grateful heart. It’s in these everyday moments that I find purpose and joy. I encourage you to look for the beauty in your own routines.
Embrace the little things. They often lead to the biggest joys.
